Robert and Virginia Mowery bought the 20-acre site the farm market sits on in December of 1984. We began planting Apple and Peach trees in 1985. Robert and Virginia started selling Apples and Peaches on weekends from the back of a pickup truck. In 1992, Robert took a hay wagon and built a movable shed to sell fruit from and it grew from there!
Robert and Virginia retired in 2003 and their daughter and son-in-law, Yvette and Tom Bullock, took it over.
Tom manages the orchard, vegetable garden and the cattle on our farm as well as the two other farms that we rent. During the winter months (or on a rainy day), Tom can usually be found in his workshop. He loves working with wood and has made many things for our home. In February 2018, Tom began working with metal. His metal art pieces can be found hanging on the walls of the farm market. Tom also makes metal fire pits which we also sell here at the farm market. More things to come.
Yvette manages the farm market. Her passion is the flowers and herbs that we sell at the market in the Spring. She can be found out among the plants every morning watering and taking care of them.
Our son, Thomas Jr., works on the farm taking care of the cows and making hay. He has a full-time job off the farm and he loves to hunt and fish.
Our daughter, Kaitlyn, helps us out working at the farm market during the summer. She is a full-time student at James Madison University and enjoys hanging out with her friends.
April 2018, we expanded the market again. Over the years, the market has grown from operating 4 months in the summer (when mom and dad ran it), to one that is open year-round. We still produce apples and peaches here at the orchard. We also grow tomatoes, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, peppers and asparagus on our farm. We offer many products produced locally as well as fresh fruit, vegetables, milk, butter, eggs, cheeses, and honey. Locally raised beef, chicken, pork. Bulk candy, nuts, dried fruit, spices, teas and coffee. Gluten free snacks. Soup and stew mixes.
Anita Mowery has been a valuable employee at Mowery Orchard for 20 years. Most customers think that we are sisters. We may not be blood, but she is very much a part of our family. She is married to Victor Mowery, has 2 kids, 6 grandkids and 2 great grandkids. She enjoys planting her Dahlias and playing in the dirt.
Linda Baker previously worked at “The Market” in downtown Woodstock. She joined Mowery Orchard in April 2018. She enjoys helping customers and meeting new people. We are excited to have her join our family.
